Review of Champions Wrestling School
for 2010-2011 Wrestling Season
Dear Parents, Wrestlers and Coaches,
We left another successful wrestling season behind us again. I would like to give you a brief overview of our wrestling school for the 2010-1011 wrestling season. Before going into detail of our wrestling season overview, I would like to thank you for your continuing support and making us one of the best youth wrestling programs in the southeast.
Over 100 wrestlers came over to train with us during this year as not only club members, but also clinic and camp participants from different clubs and schools. Even though it made it so difficult for us to track every body’s record in all categories (folkstyle, freestyle and Greco) at three locations, we believe we had a wonderful season and saw many of our wrestlers performed unbelievably at
State Championships, regional and national tournaments.
As we mostly provide training for wrestlers, we started putting together a team to go to major tournaments in the state and nation. We will be going to more wrestling tournaments since we really want to increase our effort to help our wrestlers once they achieve a certain level.
New Coaching Staff:
We understand that quality coaching makes quality wrestlers. As we add new coach, we carefully chose our coaches by looking at not only his wrestling background and achievement, but also his capacity of getting along with youngsters and his communication skills. We are fortunate to have a new experienced coaching staff on our team. Andy Cross who wrestled successfully at UNC Pembroke and US Navy Team, coached several years at Ken Chertow Summer Camps, joined our team in May 2011 and will be serving at our Greensboro Location. He is originally from England and is on the British National Team. He is currently training for the World Championship that will be taking place in Turkey in Sep, 2011.
Wrestling Tournaments:
Our annual Southern Freestyle and Greco Wrestling Tournament took place at Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg, NC. I believe freestyle and Greco wrestling experience is critical to being a successful wrestler who is dedicated to pursue international wrestling like World Championships and Olympics. For that reason, we will continue to provide this opportunity with more and tougher participants from surrounding states to make it one of the best Freestyle and Greco wrestling tournaments.
New locations:
In last year, we were very happy to open a new location in Greensboro, NC. The reason we picked Greensboro was that we had many wrestlers from the Greensboro area come to our Charlotte location to find better practice and partners. I understood that it was a lot of time and financial commitment for parents and wrestlers to travel that far. So we opened our Greensboro location to reach out to these people who love wrestling on Nov 1st at Proehlific Family Sport Park in Greensboro, which is the biggest and best sport complex that provides over a thousand kids with the opportunity to play a variety of sports. In addition, during the season, we have occasionally practiced at Triad Math and Science Academy in south Greensboro and eventually planning to make it parmanent location to create opportunity for the wrestlers coming from High Point, Jamestown, Thomasville and Burlington areas.
Clinics and Camps:
During the 2010-2011 wrestling season, we hosted 10 wrestling clinics (mostly at the beginning of every month), one winter break wrestling camp at the Matthews location, two spring break wrestling camps (one at Greensboro and one at the Charlotte location) and three technique summer wrestling camps (one at the Matthews location, two at the Greensboro location). And we finished our season with our intensive summer wrestling camp at Queens University in Charlotte with over 45 participants including many NC AAU Elementary and Middle School National Team Members.
Throughout the season, we tried to teach the latest techniques that work best and are chosen by national champions and international level wrestlers. We were fortunate to be elective by the NC AAU National Team Coaches as the best youth wrestling camp to attend. So we thank those of you who made our camp and look forward to working for a long term relationship and friendship with these kids and parents. For our camp and clinic, we always would like to bring together the wrestlers, who showed great character traits of hard work, respect, and a positive attitude toward success in wrestling and off the mat. See our slightshow from 2011 summer wrestling camp!
Our Goals for 2011-2012 Wrestling Season:
For next year, we would like to continue to provide the best opportunities available to our wrestling community. So we set several major goals for the next year,
Organize at least 10 wrestling clinics and five wrestling camps. Clinics and Camps are a great opportunity for wrestlers who are not only current members but also outsiders to get together and have intensive training so that they get to wrestle someone who they learn from and help each other, and push harder, especially in summer, winter break and spring break.
Host three wrestling tournaments: North Carolina is getting better and better every year in wrestling. We see wrestlers who get collage scholarships, place at national level tournaments and championships. There is no question that it is not only parents’ and coaches’ determination, but also the tough tournaments that are being held which create more mat time in live matches. So we would like to be part of that success by creating opportunities for our wrestlers and out-of-state wrestlers to come and compete in a tough tournament.
- Grass Monster Wrestling Tournament on Oct 22nd, 2011 Greensboro, NC. It will take place on Proehlific Park Soccer Field. (It will be a wrestling that will take place on grass with modified rules similar to freestyle with a few exceptions. Details will be available soon!)
- Southeast Showdown on January 21st, 2012 in Charlotte, NC. The tournament will be organized with a partnership of Champions Wrestling School and Charlotte Christian High School in Charlotte.
- Southern Freestyle and Greco Championship on April 21st, Charlotte, NC.
Wrestling Trip to Turkey. We would like to put together a high school team to go to Turkey and train with the Turkish Cadet and/or Junior National Team, and visit Turkish Olympic Training Center. This will be such a great opportunity for wrestlers interested in broadening their training. During the 2 week trip, wrestlers get to train with the National Team, have dual team matches, and visit wonderful places in Turkey which is one of the best tourist destinations in the World. It would be toward the end June, 2012. More information will be provided soon.

April 27,2011 Champions Wrestling School;
NEWS LETTER, April 2011

Last several weeks, Champions Wrestling School has been very busy organizing many activates including spring break wrestling camps and clinics. Many wrestlers who are on the NC Elementary and Middle School National Teams took an opportunity to participate in our camps and practices.
Wrestler of the month:
High School
Chase Hayes:
Chase Hayes has been chosen the wrestler of the year by Charlotte Weekly, regional new paper in Mecklenburg County and surrounding counties in NC. Chase Hayes spent much of the year wrestling a class or two above his weight class, as many in his sport do, to prepare for the Class 3A state tournament. The thought behind such an approach is that after spending months facing bigger, stronger competition, a wrestler will be better prepared to face athletes his size once the state tournament rolls around. Read more...
Middle School
Daniel Carr:
Daniel won an impressive 1st place finish on April 9 in Charlotte at the NAGA Southeast Championships. NAGA is the biggest grappling and jiu-jitsu organization in the World. Many UFC fighters began their career there. Over 1200 martial artists and wrestlers from 14 states competed in grappling, no-gi and Brazilian with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Daniel competed at 149 lbs and won first place in grappling and second place in jiu jitsu in a competitive age bracket and now moves up nationally in his rankings. "The biggest difference this year for me is to learn unique wrestling techniques and improve my skills in grabbling at Champions Wrestling School with Adem Kaya" he said.
Elemantary School
